    Poetry and A World Rediscovered

"Swimmers in factual waters / disinventing depth...." Those opening lines of Chuck Tripi’s poem, "Proof," stand as an apt definition of poets and their paradoxical ways. Poets (and in fact all artists) operate in the known universe, subject to the same laws of physics as everyone else. And yet, poets can disinvent depth, can rise to the surface, are called upward into the light that they themselves can also create. There is this world. And then, there is this world rediscovered. And for that, we have the poets to thank.

I have always believed that poets and scientists have a lot to learn from each other. InA Brief History of Time, Stephen Hawking asks, "Why do we remember the past but not the future?" It is the only question of Dr. Hawking’s I feel I can answer: Poets doremember the future—that is precisely how poets spend their days, remembering the future. It is lovely to think of poetry as "the spontaneous overflow of powerful emotions recollected in tranquility," as William Wordsworth wrote, but we poets know it is more like a place of turmoil rather than tranquility. Poets write of desire and want, because the future—well, you do not have to be a poet to remember what that will bring. Poets remember the future and celebrate the present. The result is haunting, whether one has written the poem or has read it.
The haiku poets have always known this. Ban’ya Natsuishi writes: A golden hand / from the dimple / of a muddy lake —and you are there, on the slippery banks of that muddy lake, and—and!—the golden hand is yours. Will be yours. Was yours. The haiku has left you bereft of the false comfort of measured time. Past, present, future are all now. The power of the image knocks us from the known world that made that image possible. Fortunately, a poet is there to remember, and to remind.

In the pages that follow, the reader will remember many futures. "Look: / You have become..." George Lightcap begins in "Poem for Myself at Age Seventeen from Me at Fifty-Four," as he disinvents time in a tone both humorous and poignant. A kindred humor and poignancy is found in "When Meeting Beauty" by Jan Oskar Hansen. Robin Linn disinvents the distinctions of personal space in "Capital of Learning," with its shifting perspectives and disconcerting cityscape. Sayumi Kamakura writes, "Though the lilies flower, / I couldn’t shorten / the distance between us"—and there again, the reader will hold his or her breath, and think, "How did this poet see me, see my world, see my future?"
"I couldn’t shorten the distance between us." And yet, Kamakura has shortened it. All the poets in this anthology have disinvented distance. This is the power of art. A poet’s choice of a word, an artist’s choice of color, a dancer’s choice of how to move her hand makes the experience of art an experience of reality, a real world unto itself, rather than a reflection of a world. I almost wrote, "So many of the poems in this anthology celebrate creation," which would have been foolish. They all celebrate creation.

Physicists, if you want to see string theory at work, multiple universes wherein every possibility exists at once, you need look no further than poetry. But "who can bear to believe this report?" asks Albert U. Turner in his poem in the voice of Arctic explorer Matthew Henson. Who can bear to believe, indeed. It would be easier, perhaps, to shut one’s mind to these reports the poets bring us from these other worlds, reports of longing, of the tenuous beauty of our days, of future memories that stop the heart.

The poets stand with the scientists on one side, and the philosophers on the other. In The Sense of Beauty, George Santayana wrote, "The real world is merely the shadow of that assurance of eventual experience which accompanies sanity." Shadow...assurance...experience—again, the stuff of poetry. Reader, did you realize when you picked up this beautiful book, that you were holding in your hands the manifestation of science and philosophy? You did realize. That is what poetry is, after all. You know you hold here a world rediscovered, a new world with each turn of the page. Your world. Remember—here it comes.

    butterfly

Live for the day , let the past remain in grave ,nor think of tomorrow.....

I saw a butterfly by my window , saw it fly
It asked me " would you like to try some ambrosia
before I leave and say good bye"
I couldn't say , neither no nor could decline
Afraid of flux of journey ,was tired
Still I inclined , looked into its eyes
Looked at the assurance in that smile
It winked at me and said " You are right ,
I understand your fear , and that is justified
But if you gave me one chance , I would
share a secret before I say good bye "
In wane I tried to ignore its advice
My thumping heart gave in ,
Couldn't hide the curiosity in my eyes
My inquisitive mind told me , " No harm if you give an ear,
hear it out , before its too late , before it flies away "
before I could say " You are my last resort "
say " Whats on your mind "
It poured some nectar on my ears
That appeared like chimes from heaven
    Brightened up my eyes
It told me " your journey is a delineation of skies
Your attempt to change the course will remain futile
Live for the day , let the past remain in grave
    Nor think of tomorrow
What is forsaken will not come to you
No matter how hard you try "
And left before I could say good bye !

    A chalice in your name

This piece of poetry is in the form of a poetic conversation between two lovers

    He-

    A chalice in your name
    Few drops from sculpted lips
    Can gulp you down

    I admire your beautiful hair
    They are like serpents coils

    Your graceful nape
    Narcissus eyes full of drunkenness

    Your ruddy cheeks
    Your magnificent smile
are enough to drench me in sweet pain

    Your mellifluous voice
    All I can say is
    is like sparkling wine

    Now show me thy heart
    stains of love
Pearls by million I would gladly cede
For the sake of tears borne of love

    She -

Whisper again, I want to hear you say
those words over and over again,
Feel my pain , glance at my bleeding heart
before the tulips in my hair go wry !

"You are beautiful " ,when you said
When you looked into my eyes, whispered my name
When you held me tight , kissed my nape
    I felt like a Whirlabout
    like Confused Cloudywing
     I felt like flying !

"Come close to me my Spring Azure
I like the Crimson Patch on your cheeks
    Your Sooty Hair Streak
Let me hold your Mustard White Wings" ,when you said
I felt my face flush with gushing blood in my body
I smoldered in heat , felt aroused with out fire !

"You are beautiful " when you said
"You are my Painted lady I like your shades
Your Dreamy Dusky Wings are mine can you say"
I looked away tried to play with Silver Drop of my necklace
When your Cranberry Blue eyes pierced through my cleft
my cocoon fell on floor , before I could escape !

    reason to believe

Your beautiful smile gave me a reason to believe
"There is a sunny day after every dark night"
The clouds are now going to recede
You are the reason for me to blossom
I bloom like Queen Annes Lace in wilderness
Watch me become intoxicating like Morning Glory
    My hues become Flamboyant
From now on I lean on thee
like a vine on coral (here coral tree)
Your smile is like a sunrise , for several years
    that I didn't see
Your  mesmerising eyes when you smile at me
gave me a reason to believe
The fragrance of jasmine is real
I can see the dazzle of azzurro above me
You make me feel like Geb that needs to
quench its thirst with love that is the only thing
     I seek
Drown me in mystery of ocean
Harbour me in thy eyes ,they deeper than deep blue sea
Camouflage me , widen thy arms accommodate me
My  Horus, khnemu  You are my Re
Shower me with pious love that you said
is the only thing that you have for me
And  make me believe the  rainbow that I see
is real ,  your aura is meant for me and me
that gave me a reason to believe in life and live.

    ride to paradise

    Speechless , Overwhelmed
    My ride to paradise
    My conversation with a cloud
    who came around
when I was about to cross
the horizon ,was close to the sphere.

I could see the orb smile at me
and looked admiringly at my chariot .

    Wind whispered to stars
told them to stop my convoy

     Together with the cloud
they fortified my road to paradise
    They told me to stop
and hear what the paradise has to say
    They told me
"You could lose your aspect , your name ,fame
your treasure too will be gone
if you cross the line drawn by the milky way "

    Few moments I thought
     but kick start my chariot
Told them" I was told  to wash my sins
before I was sent to the glitzy world
Neither then I had a name nor a trace of fame
My name was lost when I dropped
    the garb that I adorned
    that had begun to rot
No more I seek an aspect or name
but some fragrance , an embrace
that I missed while I was there
    Now open the heavenly gates
I have no memories of past
    or  of what I lost
I feel no pain , nor crave for no gains
Let me immerse in heavenly light
    my resting place.

    silver lining

    Saw a light that enlightened
my soul warned me against the world
told me a tale of pessimism
and a silver lining called optimism

The trail of its words is still clear
    It follows me every where
    The words that changed me
    Purified my thoughts
    Here I share
Follow me , is your choice
    Your decision

" I have put an end to your
unwarranted fears for the time being ,
    Answered all your prayer
    Now flutter and swing ,
    Let he fragrance of jasmine
    follow you every where
But one promise I need from thee ...
    Choose an  affirmative road
One step here or there , on the road of energies
    those are morbid and negative
    Can destroy you
Life is a bed of roses ,if you may choose
    right energy
     I hold no miraculous wand
But it is your thought process ,
     that will make your life
a bliss or fill it up with sufferings.
The choice is yours ,who do you want to give privilege to
Who do you want to carve your destiny "

    over and over

    .

I don't think I can call it poetry ....honestly I got a little lyrical today
A light one hope you enjoy reading it...

Like a star shining in the sky
that disappears , when the sun smiles

You don't forget to say "you are mine"every morning ,
but disappear in the moon light

Is that the way to say "stay away ",when I begin to believe your eyes
when I am on cloud nine

Can I ask for one night that wont see the next morning
    that will stay till late

Can I see you once next morning , when I open my eyes
when I rise ,  can I see your face

Now don't you say " God has been so kind , at least we met
so feel great , my love for you will never die , I am here to stay "

I am gonna hold my breath next time for a while , scare you once
so that you know , how you would feel when I am not there

Now don't you make that face , nor I care for that awful glare
your hot red eyes set me on fire , feel me I am ablaze

Can you see the droplets above my eyes , my nape too
has begun to perspire , feel me every where

Hold me , sway with me , relieve me of pain
brush your moist breath against my body , touch me with your angelic tips
and say " you are mine " over and over again !

    my life

    Vivid stars in my eyes
Speak of my victory on you my life
    You thought you could steal

    Many times you tried
I told you I am not the one
     "Who you could defeat "

    Shower me with rainbow
    Douse me in  sunshine
    Sprinkle some stars on me

    Lets be consorts my life
    Now take my advice
    Don't play hide and seek

    You know I will thrive
Wont give up all  my life
No matter how hard you hit !

    myrrh

Your reflection in my eyes ,
     Your smile in my dreams
    Wake me up

Tell me ,why do you hide
    Go away at sunrise
    Leave behind your myrrh
    Cant you see

I burn ,the flames are high
    The aroma of my desires
    Spread all over
    Like a wild fire
    Cant you feel

    Your reflection , my life
     Concealed from my eyes
    When the day comes by
    Leaves me relinquished
    High and dry
    When I am on peak

Tell me why do you hide
When I lie by your side
    Your lips caress my eyes
When I can feel your every breath of desire
While your body in accord with mine
    In my dreams !

    destiny

    Few miles away
    From sun rise
From stars that I often see
My voyage in thy world of mystery
I gape at new found life
Like they say , you spun it
in a way ,that you like
    As it pleases thee.

The strides those had become tired
Have found a spur it seems
My futile attempts in search of reasons
of my being  , my existence
     gave in to new desires
    came across new dreams .
My life you too had become unreliable
In fight but emerged as victorious
Gave me a reason to celebrate
    rejuvenate , experience the feeling
    of being in euphoria
    I cruise like a cougar
amongst the misery , on burning streets .

    The truth
    The irony of life
I learnt , though took more time than desired
but I  know , I belong to thee
Am your loved one , you hurt me
You made me go through a trial
    to make me a stalwart
who can face the gruesome journey
     am not named an escapist
who would kneel in front of fate
but erase the blemish of my"  Destiny ".

    your lips

Once again few lines inspired by Daag Dehlvi ji , but in the form of lyrics

Your  beautiful eyes, left me gape
Your beautiful smile , told me your name
Your  beautiful hair , you left on my nape
Your lips made me wonder , if you would
ever say "you will be mine"

I could hear , what you were trying to say
I could feel your breath , though you left ...went away
Your beautiful hair , you left on my nape
Every time I look at them " my loneliness disappears
the feeling is so divine "

    Look at me... one again
Let your smile speak for you
    Let it say  again
Let your lips feel my nape... once again
But this time don't leave your hair ,I must say
Cant resist you , you are like an old wine
Let me feel the depth in your eyes

    Come close to me
Let me feel your body close to mine ,once again
    when I hear you say
"You were made for me, you are mine "

    iris

     I heard your prayer
    I saw you cry
    It was a painful sight
    The flowers you lay
    got washed away
    without a  smile
    they graced the occasion
as a ritual on a usual day
    My remains now washed away
with showers on the rainy day
    When the moon took time
    couldn't decide
    whether to rise
or remain harboured in its hideaway
    For a while I craved
to be in your arms again
When I heard the sound of respite
I knew he has chosen to be magnanimous today
    Am on a boulevard
    that would take me away
    from heart aches
    I made up my mind
    not to look back again
    I looked at the sky
    glanced at the glorious way
    I lost my sight
when Iris held my hand that I waved
She whispered " Don't you worry
I am here to guide you to the world of fame
away from notoriety , away from the world
that lives in a guise "

    evil eye

    The blossom on aspen trees
has spread like wild fire ,
The humming birds seem to be on joy ride ,
I can see the butterflies at night ,
Twinkle in glow worm's eyes ,
Recklessly they fly in the sky ,
Gushing water seems filled with joy
Sounds like music coming from Mandolin !

I don't remember having had grape wine
    for some time ,
    But can you  see
    My smile has become tangible,
My heart beat sound like a Trumpet ,
Its evident from my blinking eyes ,
My heart is filled with joy ,
    His phenomenal smile
has given me a new life ,
Life seems like sound of Bassoon !

Can you hear me " O evil eye "
Let him stay there for rest of my life ,
Change your ways for me this time,
D'ont say you can not  "those are your rituals" !

    rhapsody

                                                 Photo: :))))))))))
This piece of poetry is inspired by the lines given above

He heard my rhapsody  , heard my Iliad
He said " Hold me, unlax , now you are in my arms"

I showed him the trounce marks of destiny on my heart
He felt them and said "  They will disappear, next time when you glance at your heart "

I told him , " I will crumble,if you are not there, you are gone "
He swore and said " I may not be here but when you need me,  I am there, you will find me around "

He left to look out for stars , Disappeared  in the crowd ,
I don't see him , nor feel him , don't think he is there he is around .
But I hear him say " I am here , I am still there I am around "

How do I tell him  ,  I need him , am incomplete without him . I need his arms ,
How do I convey ,What are you looking for d'ont lose me while you look for the  stars
Don't bereft me of love I found . Hold me , before you lose me in the crowd.

    life has just begun

I  have come far away , away from raven
    an ebullient storm ,
    Few miles away ,
Away from stardust , have become buoyant
    Lighter than smokey cloud .

I followed a vibrant ray that lead me to the world of stars
Though am blind ,blinded by the storm ,
Yet can see a doorway ,that leads to mysterious world
that Neith is said to have spun .

Now you, did I hear you whisper "  Life has just begun "
The hue on your face is brighter than one could have thought.
Like an Eros, like Morpheus hold me in thy arms
I need No Helios , No Aether , No Oceanus
But just one breath in love

    mysterious mystery

    I like your dusky hues
I can see the sheen in your blue eyes
    The depth in deep blue
is enough to drown me in love
    I have this instinct !

    Now, c'mon hold my hand
Love me as much as you can
Life may not give us another chance
Here play with my each and every string !

    Love is a mystery
You know my wait was too long
to drown in the mist ,it was a dream
It gave me a reason to live !

    Listen carefully to
each and every chord of romance
hear them chant, before they evanesce ,
"The mild aroma of your sudoric frame
was meant for me and only me !"

Here I wait for you to caress me while
I smoulder and become crimson red
Smell my essence , the mysterious musk
The musk , I know you wont be able to resist !

    my home town

The fear of losing my wavering hair
    my sensuality , my aura
    my overwhelming sound
the twinkling eyes , that mischievous smile
     few fractions ,went flying
    tossed away from life
    cold , frozen on pyre
    my body made no sound

    Strewn in million pieces
an atom , smaller than splinter
    shredded within the ground
    left among slumgullion
    in a play ground
    away from a place
    called my home town ;

    My passion and my dreams
my accomplishments , what I achieved
    my pains , my longings
    smothered ,when I lay
with no tears , no feelings
    when the rose on my cheeks was all gone ;

Though I don't wish to be there
but if ever you think to reincarnate
and ask me to go back to the world
the world where I never belonged
I vow , will never fray ,nor crave
will be subtle in my ways
a secret I learnt  in your world
    where I have no frowns
but I pray allow me to remember
the secret ways , that I might forget
